Garden Party

Tuesday night we had our first garden party of the year. The invitations were delivered 2 weeks ago and the preparations were complete. We were ready!

Garden Party

I was excited to see how well my yard would accommodate a crowd larger than I had previously entertained. I kept my fingers crossed for 5 days straight, praying the wind wouldn't blow. The weather was perfect! By the time the party started the house had cast a cooling, welcome shadow on the yard making the evening feel much more refreshing than anything any human could have produced.

Because the wind often begins blowing, without any notice, I knew my only choice for a center piece would be some heavy flower pots. I also made some watermelon place cards with some thoughts of inspiration but avoided putting them on the tables until the very last minute, at which time the camera was put away. I would have liked to have done more with the watermelon idea but failed to find the time.

I had place settings for 54 people as well as 10 chairs resting in the shade of deck. I was delighted to see how many people I could comfortably accomodate, for future reference.

The food for 50 people was prepared by myself and three of my friends. I begged my sister-in-law to make me a batch of cookies at the last minute because my time had slipped away from me. We tried to keep the menu simple and uncomplicated. We served pulled pork sandwiches, a colorful fresh salad, watermelon, and chips with four beautifully presented dips. For dessert we ate cookies, a geogous pudding cake, and the most delicious summer sherbet you can image.

The party was a success! Everyone enjoyed the calming summer evening with great conversation and plenty of good food.
I look forward to doing this again as I was thrilled to prepare and host a party for my cherished friends.
